La Casa Verde 2012:

Using the momentum gained from last year’s spectacular event, this year is sure to be the biggest La Casa Verde to-date. On Saturday, April 14th, La Casa Verde will once again occupy McMinnville’s Saturday Market where the annual community event will host the region’s fore-most experts on all things green and sustainable. In a multi-tent, open, festival environment, these vendors will help bring to light the latest and greatest in the industry and how it can impact your life.

Event Description:

One of an infinite number of designs!

In a twist of format, the vendors will participate in a competitive event tasking them to work together in teams to build a chicken-tractor that can handle a specially designed series of tests and rigors. The vendors will start with the same package of lumber, hardware, and wheels but will need to use a pre-loaded gift card to the nearby Habitat for Humanity Re-Store.

After the chicken-tractor champion is crowned, the vehicles will be auctioned off with the proceeds benefiting the McMinnville area Habitat for Humanity. This year will also feature a sampling of local bands to fill the festival-like atmosphere and the market’s own Wednesday Wines hosting a beer garden. The bands joining us are: Market musician Larry Brown, The Davis Street Jug Band, and The Jackalope Saints. Add to that list the result of last year’s event: the Cob Oven will be in full operation with wood-fired pizzas all-day!

The evening of the event will be alive with the annual wine-maker’s dinner and presentation of the green achievement awards. Honoring sustainable leaders over the last year in food, education, wine, business, leadership, advocacy, and inspiration the award is the culmination and celebration in another year committed to a sustainable community.
